Zoning districts & permitted uses

A working reference for zoning classifications across the markets we cover — what each district permits, and what it means for a site’s highest-and-best use.

Ask about San Antonio zoning

Ask a question about a property or zoning item — e.g. “What can I build on a C-2 lot?” or “Does a short-term rental need a permit?”

Zoning procedure

A change in zoning classification entails two public hearings: one conducted by the Zoning Commission and one by the City Council. The applicant and/or their representative must be present at both hearings to explain the purpose for the requested zoning change. If no one is present at the public hearing to explain the request, the zoning change may be denied or postponed. In the event of a postponement, the applicant will be assessed a postponement fee before the request is rescheduled.
